It looks like I'm off the hook on my friendly neighborhood flasher case.  The guy pled no contest and was adjudicated guilty.  Whew!  I'm so glad I don't have to go to a trial over that.

The kids had a big day today.  Patrick went to the AR (Accelerated Reader) party at school.  At the end of the year, if a student has achieved a certain number of AR points, they get to go to a special party.  In first grade, you need 50 points to go, and Patch had 76!  Dat's my boy!  And as long as I'm bragging about his reading, he's still reading the Harry Potter series and getting 100% scores on the AR tests on it - and those books are all 6th grade level!

Alex also had a good school day today.  They're studying Medieval times and he had to build a model castle for school.  It had to include a list of components.  He was really excited about it and worked three nights straight last week putting it together out of Legos.  He brought his castle back home today with a score of 105!  He got extra credit for having a draw bridge that went up and down.

He's very proud, as he should be! He added the jousters, a kitchen and a mew (where the falcons are kept) on his own

I finally broke down and went to the eye doctor for a check up this morning.  I've been avoiding it because I've been fearing the worst - and it was realized today:  I need bifocals!  Nooooooooooooo!

Well, this has just been an all-around crappy day.  I had a closing out in Brevard county this morning, and when I got back in my car to leave, the battery was dead.  Mark was in Tampa all day, so I figured my best bet was to call AAA.  I waited in the sweltering heat, in dress clothes I might add, for an hour and a half, while breathing the smoke from the brush fires which had just passed over where I was (quite literally - I could see where the fire had jumped the road a mile away!).   I'm still recovering (s-l-o-w-l-y) from that cold, and the smoke was torture.

I dragged myself home and was going to let Mark take care of the battery tonight, thinking there was nothing else on my calendar today.  At 4:00 Alex suddenly panicked and said he has football practice at 4:30.  Huh?  Football practice is on Wednesday and today is Thursday.  Well, apparently coach had called an extra practice today, and neither Mark nor Alex thought to mention it to me.   Justin hadn't mentioned anything to his mom either, and was being watched by his grandmother who had no idea where they needed to go, so he needed a ride, too.  My wonderful neighbors came to the rescue once again, and Sonja loaned me her car so I could drop the boys off, and Mark picked them up after practice on his way home.  And me with my nerves shot to hell already!

After a smelly day of romping outside, Alex opted for a bath in the big tub tonight.  He lounged away in the tub reading his book, then got out as usual.  Later, Patrick also went into the big tub for his bath.  He called for me and asked me to get the shampoo out of the shower for him to use.  Hmmmmm - wasn't Alex just in this same tub?  Wouldn't he have needed the shampoo?  Maybe Alex doesn't think shampoo is a requirement for cleanliness.  Mark and I snickered about this discovery, and he decided to talk to Alex about it.  I heard him say to Alex, "Mommy and I have a mystery we need you to help us solve . . ."  Alex ended up taking a shower afterwards!

Alex is on another fitness kick and has decided to start running again.  He kept asking Mark to time him running laps around the back yard yesterday, so Mark suggested they go for a run around the neighborhood.  We all hopped on our bikes and escorted Alex on his run.  Mark timed him, and he did a mile in 7 minutes, 55 seconds!  This morning they went again, and did the "big loop" and this time he did 2 miles in 17 minutes 5 seconds.  Wow!

Patrick had gymnastics today and he finally achieved all of the goals to move up to the next level.  They have a bell that the kids ring when they move up a level and Patrick was so excited to finally get to ring it!

I set up a funky sprinkler in the yard and Alex and the neighbors made it their end zone for a football game.  He'll turn anything into a football game!  Patch spent his day hunting with his cap gun.

Touchdown!!! Kill the wabbit!

Patrick had a gymnastics fun meet this afternoon and got to show off what he's learned.  Mom joined Mark, Alex and me to cheer him on and he did great!  Unfortunately, I just can't seem to get any decent pictures in that gym, but I did get one of him getting his medal.

He likes that top step!

Happy Mother's Day!

My boys know me well, and let me sleep in late this morning.  When I woke up, there was a Happy Mother's Day note on the bed next to me, beautifully decorated.  We had a nice relaxing day together and went out for an early dinner.  After the kids' baths, I went to straighten up the bathroom and Alex had put his clothes in his hamper, which never happens.  I made some smart-aleck remark to him about it, and he said, "Well, it is Mother's day!"

The school has a program called Music Kids for the 4th and 5th grade students.  They work throughout the year and put on a production at the end of each school year.  This year they performed Oklahoma!  They had dress rehearsals during the day for all of the students, and had the "real" performances in the evenings this week.  Patrick was so taken with the production that he insisted we go for an evening performance.  His teacher has horses and brought one in for a quick appearance in the show, and she had the horse in front of the school for all of the kids to meet beforehand.  Her class has heard stories about her horses all year long and Patrick couldn't wait to finally meet Bunny.

We had Justin over for a sleepover tonight.  It's so nice now that they're older - it's like we have fewer kids instead of extra.  They disappear into one of their rooms and play with Bionicles or Yu-Gi-Oh cards and I can get tons of stuff done!  Mark got out the game boards and they had a chess and backgammon match before bed.

The boys have learned some origami in art class so I bought some paper and a pattern book.  Patrick has really taken to it, and now we have an entire zoo of paper animals!

Alex asked Mark this morning if he could wash my van.  The kid may become useful after all!  ;-)  It was such a hot, muggy afternoon so we headed out to the public pool.  Alex swam the length of the deep end on his own, and Patrick taught himself how to do both back and front flips underwater.

It's the last day of school ! ! ! ! !

We've started a tradition in the neighborhood of having a pool and pizza party at someone's house on the last day of school.  Mom had foot surgery this morning so I spent the day with her while the kids romped in the pool, then Mark and I joined them for pizza, more swimming, and limbo!  Patrick is turning into a fish, and today taught himself how to dive in, and to do back flips off the side of the pool.

How low can ya go Those long legs aren't helping!

Summer boredom has already kicked in, so we headed to the bowling alley.

It's the mean bowlers!

It's been brutally hot this week, but that didn't slow down the kids.  They emptied our ice maker onto the trampoline and jumped around in the ice for awhile, and when that melted, they got out the hose and created all kinds of silly water games.

Imaginations at work

The boys were in the big tub tonight and I was sitting at the computer happily listening to their laughter.  Then I heard Patrick say, "No Alex!  You're going to get in trouble!"   That can't be good!  Here's what I walked in on.

I know there are children in there somewhere!

We had a wonderful Memorial Day pool party in Lakeland with my aunt and a bunch of family.  My cousin, Dan, is briefly home after a stint in Saudi Arabia and will soon be heading off for Germany, so we were so glad to visit with him and his family.

Patch LOVES doing back dives into the pool! Playing another kind of pool
