LAKE GEORGE
September 11, 2001
We were thrilled to welcome Kay and Brian Gage for a wonderful visit today, and got an added bonus when they opted to stay the night. Mark and the boys and I went for a short hike, which was awesome! There was a bridge going over a brook so we played “Pooh sticks” (where you race sticks down the brook under the bridge) and looked for worms for fishing, which proved futile, yet fun in the search. Hopefully we can fit in a longer hike later in the week. And Great Nana made her award-winning cream puffs for dessert tonight.
Unfortunately, the tragedy of the terrorist attacks cast a shadow over the day. Televisions ran all day while we followed the events and developments. Of course, Alex was struggling to understand what the fuss was all about, and finally started asking questions. So at the tender age of four, my precious son is grappling with what it means when thousands of people are dead, and why anyone would want to do that. We were watching the news as the second plane hit the World Trade Center. Right after it happened, Patch stated simply, “That’s gotta hurt.” Boy, you said a mouthful, kid.
Our hearts and prayers go out to all of the victims of this horrible tragedy.
